THE OPPORTUNITY:
We have an excellent opportunity for a Research Manager within the Cultural Skills Unit (CSU) in the ArtsDepartment, who will be responsible for undertaking research across Egypt, Morocco and Saudi Arabia to inform the development of high-quality, strategic cultural skills programmes that meet need and market demand in each country, supporting the British Council’s cultural relations objectives.

This is a fast-moving and diverse role, working at the heart of the British Council’s Cultural Skills Unit. You will travel to Egypt, Morocco and Saudi Arabia to conduct primary research employing qualitative and quantitative methods to map the education and cultural landscape. Your research will identify skills gaps and shortages affecting the cultural sector in each country and forecast the market demand for cultural skills products.

You will present specialist advice that articulates the research findings and offers evidenced-based recommendations for programme development, including potential business models. This will be used to inform policy and programme development in the region, including income-generating products.

This is an exciting opportunity for an individual with experience in research, confident project management skills, a ‘can-do’ attitude and excellent team working skills, looking to gain international experience working for a global cultural relations organisation, delivering results that can lead to real change. You should be fluent in written and spoken Modern Standard Arabic and English. You should also have a postgraduate degree or equivalent in Humanities/Social Science or other relevant subject.

You must be available to start on Monday, 24 August 2015. You will also have to be available for work overseas during the following periods: (i) 07.10.15 –22.10.15 (ii) 25.10.15 – 07.11.15 (iii) 13.01.16 – 29.01.16. You should state in their application if you are not available to start on the required date or to travel overseas during any of these periods.

You must already have the right to work and live in Egypt, Morocco, Saudi Arabia or the UK. You will be based in whichever of the above countries you have the right to work in. You must also have no restrictions on travel to any of these four countries due to the specific purpose of this opportunity. Please specify in your application if you are aware of any possible restrictions that would limit your ability to carry out the research in any of these countries.

Please note that you may also apply for this role as a secondment opportunity from your current place of work. You should confirm in your application that you have your employer’s agreement to this secondment.
