SUBJECT: Vacancy Announcement for a Lower Elementary School Teacher.
Purpose
The Lower Elementary Classroom Teacher delivers high-quality instruction in core subject areas to students in Grades K-2, with a strong focus on building foundational literacy, numeracy, and social-emotional skills.
The teacher creates a structured, nurturing, and engaging learning environment that supports early independence, confi dence, and a lifelong love of learning.
Working closely with colleagues and support staff, the teacher contributes to a coherent and developmentally appropriate program aligned with the mission and philosophy of Rabat American School (RAS). The role is critical in laying the academic and behavioral foundations that prepare students for success in Upper Elementary and beyond.
STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
Instruction and Curriculum
● Plan and deliver rigorous, developmentally appropriate lessons aligned with RAS curriculum standards for Grades K-2.
● Build strong foundations in literacy (phonics, reading, writing) and numeracy through explicit, systematic instruction.
● Use differentiated instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners and support early academic growth.
● Design engaging, hands-on, and inquiry-based learning experiences that promote curiosity and active participation.
● Integrate age-appropriate use of technology to support learning and creativity.
● Use ongoing formative and summative assessments to monitor progress and adjust instruction accordingly.
Classroom Environment
● Establish a structured, safe, and inclusive classroom that promotes consistency, routine, and a sense of belonging.
● Support the development of self-regulation, independence, and positive learning behaviors.
● Set clear expectations and guide students in developing responsibility and accountability appropriate to their age.
● Provide consistent feedback, encouragement, and support to build confi dence and resilience.
● Explicitly teach and model social-emotional skills such as empathy, cooperation, and respect.
● Monitor student well-being and collaborate proactively with families and counselors when needed.
Communication and Family Partnership
● Maintain clear, consistent, and proactive communication with parents/guardians regarding student progress and classroom expectations.
● Share updates through conferences, report cards, newsletters, emails, and phone communication.
● Build strong, trust-based partnerships with families to support student learning and development.
Collaboration and Professional Culture
● Collaborate closely with grade-level teams, specialist teachers (PE, Art, Music, Library, Languages), and support staff.
● Contribute to curriculum planning and alignment across Grades K-2.
● Actively participate in a collaborative, professional culture that prioritizes student success and program consistency.
● Stay informed of school policies, procedures, and developments through required meetings and communications.
Professional Responsibilities
● Uphold and implement the school’s Mission, Philosophy, and Educational Objectives in all interactions.
● Participate actively in faculty meetings, professional development, and school initiatives.
● Engage constructively in the teacher evaluation process.
● Perform assigned supervisory duties.
● Coordinate effectively with any assigned instructional aide.
● Contribute to the After-School Activities (ASA) program by leading at least one activity per year.
● Carry out additional duties as assigned in line with school policies and the Faculty Handbook.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
● Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field.
● Valid teaching credential/certifi cation.
● Minimum of 2 years of successful full-time teaching experience at the elementary level.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
● Strong understanding of child development in early and lower elementary years (Grades K-2).
● Proven ability to teach foundational literacy and numeracy effectively.
● Ability to create structured, engaging, and supportive learning environments for young learners.
● Strong classroom management skills with a focus on positive behavior development.
● Clear, professional, and culturally responsive communication skills.
● Ability to build strong relationships with students, colleagues, and families.
● Strong organizational skills, reliability, and adaptability in a dynamic school environment.
● Commitment to collaboration and continuous professional growth.
SUPERVISORY RELATIONSHIP:
The Lower Elementary Classroom Teacher reports directly to the Elementary School Principal.
SUPERVISORY CONTROLS:
The Lower Elementary Classroom Teacher does not supervise other staff or employees.
