STATEMENT OF DUTIES

Basic Duties

The Spanish teacher is responsible for planning, delivering, and assessing high quality Spanish instruction for IBDP Spanish Ab Initio and Beginner Spanish Students. This role ensures students develop language proficiency, cultural understanding, and IB learner skills, while actively supporting the school’s mission, values and educational objectives.

Responsibilities & Duties

Instruction & Curriculum Delivery

- Integrate the school’s Mission, Values, Philosophy and Objectives for Education, as well as the specific objectives in the applicable curriculum areas.

- Stay informed of school developments and policy by reviewing school publications, web site(s), attending meetings and applying relevant updates in classroom practices.

- Design and deliver lessons using diverse instructional strategies and. assessments, including IB-specific evaluations to meet curriculum objectives and support all students’ learning needs.

Collaboration & Professional Accountability

- Collaborate with colleagues to plan lessons, develop curriculum, and foster a positive, professional, and inclusive learning environment.

- Participate in faculty meetings, professional development sessions and committee meetings as appropriate or appointed.

- Actively and cooperatively participate in the teacher evaluation process.

- Guide and collaborate with instructional aides to support classroom instruction.

- Establish and maintain positive, cooperative and productive relationships with other members of the faculty, staff, administration, and RAS community.

Student Support & Engagement

- Maintain consistent communication with parents about student progress, classroom updates, and learning goals through conferences, report cards, newsletters, emails and classroom web pages.

- Promote parent engagement by inviting participation in school programs, classroom activities, and student learning experiences. Encourage parent involvement in school programs, activities or the classroom.

- Provide timely feedback and mentorship to support students’ learning and personal growth.

- Supervise students outside of the classroom as assigned.

- Participate in the Co-Curricular Activities (CCA) Program by teaching at least one activity for one “CCA” session during the school year.

Student Support & Engagement

- Perform other duties as assigned and outlined in the Faculty Handbook and/or policies of the school.

QUALIFICATION REQUIRED

- BA or BS degree or equivalent; (MA, MS, or M.Ed. preferred).

- Valid teaching credential or qualification.

- A minimum of 2 years’ experience teaching at the secondary school level.

- International teaching experience preferred.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

- Experience with the writing process, inquiry learning, differentiated instruction, technology, and assessment required.

- Ability to work in a predominantly English-speaking environment.

- Able to engage students in the learning process.

- Provides mentorship to guide students academically and personally.

SUPERVISORY RELATIONSHIP

The Secondary School Spanish Teacher receives supervision from the Secondary School Principal, and/or his/her designee.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS

This position does not include supervision of other RAS staff.
